Obama Speaks

My wish was granted.

The President did not shrink from noting the vitriol which has pervaded our political "Discourse."

By now it is pretty clear that the Tucson shooting suspect was unhinged, and there hasn't to date been any credible thread of evidence that he was influenced by inflammatory rhetoric. That said, the climate of hatred, and of suggestions that if the democratic process is not successful, the people should take their "second amendment alternative," are clearly inflammatory.  Like an organ living in a sea of inflammation, each person is in some way affected by this climate.  Those who are less stable may arguably be more likely to be driven to extremes.

So at this point I can only hope that our pundits can tone it down to a civil roar and return to talking about concepts and disagreements rather than shrieking.

And then there's gun-control . . .
